Talbud
Privacy policy
Short version: Talbud keeps your money data on your phone. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Only the optional AI bill reading sends anything, and only after you agree.
Who is responsible
Talbud is made by Codewelt Private Limited (CIN U72900KL2020PTC066110), Room No 12/109, First Floor, Vyapara Bhavan Building, Kakkur, Kozhikode, Kerala 673613, India. Contact for privacy questions: info@codewelt.in. Legal details are on our imprint page.
Data that stays on your phone
Everything you enter in Talbud is stored only on your phone. That includes accounts, transactions, budgets, recurring payments, bill photos, card statements you import and your ideas list. We cannot see it, and we have no copy.
- No account. You never sign up or log in.
- No ads, analytics or tracking. The app contains no advertising or analytics code.
- No cloud backup. Android's automatic cloud backup is switched off for Talbud. The app makes its own encrypted backup file only when you ask, saved where you choose. Only you know its password, and we cannot recover it.
- Exports (CSV and PDF) are created only when you ask, and saved or shared where you choose.
- No bank logins. Talbud never asks for bank passwords, card security codes or online-banking logins.
Reading bills and statements on the phone
When you scan a bill, the text is read on your phone by Google's ML Kit text recognition, which runs on the device. We have removed ML Kit's usage reporting from the app, so nothing is sent to Google. Card statement PDFs you import are also read on the phone only.
Phone permissions
- Notifications: reminders for recurring payments, budget alerts and the weekly summary.
- Biometrics: optional fingerprint or face unlock. The check is done by Android; the app never sees your biometric data.
- Microphone: only if you tap the microphone to dictate text in the ideas list. The speech is turned into text by your phone's speech service, which may be provided by Google under its own terms. Talbud does not store or send any audio.
- Camera and files: photos and PDFs are taken or chosen through Android's own camera and file picker. The app gets only the item you pick.
- Internet: used only by the optional AI bill reading described below. With it switched off, the app makes no internet connections.
Optional AI bill reading
This feature is off by default. You can turn it on in Settings, Online features, after reading a consent screen. Even then, a bill is sent only when you tap "Improve with AI" on that bill.
What is sent: the text of that one bill as read on your phone, such as shop, items and prices. If you also allowed it, the bill photo is sent, shrunk and with its location data removed. The app also sends a random app ID, the app version, the app language, the account's currency and the list of your category names. Never your accounts, balances, other transactions or your name.
Where it goes: to Codewelt's server on Microsoft Azure in Germany (Frankfurt region). The server passes the bill to Google's Gemini AI on a paid plan, which reads it and returns the items. Under Google's terms for paid use, Google does not use this data to train its AI. Google may keep it for a limited time to detect abuse, and may process it outside the EU under its standard data protection terms.
What is kept: our server keeps nothing of the bill after answering. Your internet address is used only in the server's memory to limit misuse, and is never stored or logged. To count the free daily quota, the server stores a one-way hash of the random app ID with a daily counter, and deletes these counters within two days. The server logs only the outcome, timing and cost of each request.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by switching the feature off in Settings. This also deletes the random app ID from your phone. Scanning keeps working offline.
Children
Talbud is meant for adults managing their own money. It is not directed at children.
Your rights
Because your data is on your phone, you control it directly: you can edit, export or delete it in the app, and uninstalling the app deletes it. For the small amount of data our server handles, you can ask us for access, correction or deletion, or object to processing, by writing to info@codewelt.in. In the EU you can also complain to a data protection authority. We handle personal data in line with the EU GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Changes
If we change how Talbud handles data, we will update this page before the new app version is released. A new online feature will always ask for your consent first.
